HEALTH & SAFETY TRAINING; WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
When most people hear the term "self-defense", they envision an attacker being flipped by someone who must defend his or her self. But, in reality, self-defense is much more than that. To defend ourselves against physical attackers, we must first be healthy, which means defending ourselves against things like stress and disease. The older we get, the more important our health becomes. A total self-defense program at any age begins with this knowledge, and progresses into various techniques. This class will give insight into some simple exercises and into some simple self-defense techniques that are relevant to what your body can do.

MT. ST. HELENS RIM HIKE
Shortly after the massive eruption on May 18, 1980 scientists made predictions that it would take 100 years for the mountain to sustainably support plant and wildlife. Amazingly in only 30 years the mountain has made huge strides towards recovery and has challenged long held natural assumptions.
Join our guides from Northwest Discoveries as you hike to the rim for outstanding vistas of the surrounding Cascades and peer into the crater several thousand feet directly beneath you. See the smoking dome and the vastly recovered Spirit Lake.

Participants should be in good physical hiking shape with good balance on rock and loose rock for this 9.4 mile round trip hike with a 4,500 ft. elevation gain and loss. Participants should start training at least two months ahead with progressively longer hikes and more elevation gain. Van transportation from the pickup location, user permit, and guide are included in the price. Rim hike may be canceled at any time due to volcanic activity.
There will never be a better time to hike the mountain. As time goes by the devastation of 30 years ago will become less visible. Take your opportunity this summer.
