Slurry seals are a cost-effective option for improving and protecting the asphalt pavement on local streets. A slurry seal is a thin asphalt surface treatment that seals small cracks and restores the pavement surface. They are generally applied to residential streets with lower traffic volumes that are in good condition. Streets that are going to receive a slurry seal treatment are typically crack sealed prior to receiving a slurry seal.
Streets are prioritized based on their pavement condition. The current priority is to slurry seal the backlog of newer local streets between 10 and 20 years old that have never received a slurry seal. Typically, streets included in each year’s slurry seal project are grouped together in one part of town to reduce construction costs and impacts to adjacent properties.
Slurry seals provide a cost-effective way to extend the life of our Albany streets.
In 2021, slurry seal work will be concentrated in the area shown below. The contractor is aiming to start work in late June or early July.
What to Expect
Streets receiving a slurry seal application will be closed from 7 am to 5 pm.
Please remove the following from your street by 7 a.m.:
- trash cans
- basketball hoops
- other objects in the roadway
If you need to use your vehicle during the closure hours, park it outside the no parking area of the project. Vehicles will not be able to enter or exit the project area once slurry seal is applied and vehicles left parked on the streets after 7 a.m. will be towed so that work may proceed. 48-hour notices and no parking signs will be posted in advance of the project.
In the event of rain, slurry seal work will be rescheduled. Please refrain from watering yards or doing other activities that may cause water to enter the roadway the night before or day of slurry seal application.
